Practical training

SpectroCAT 2026 is not just a list of interesting lectures in vibrationnal spectroscopy.
At the heart of the Summer School lies our practical training sessions: each afternoon you will step out of the lecture theatre and into the labs of the Laboratoire Catalyse & Spectrochimie (LCS) where theory meets the real-world challenges of infrared spectroscopy in catalysis and adsorption. Participants will engage in hands-on experiments using in situ and operando IR spectrometers, explore multi-technique couplings, and analyse actual reaction systems with the same equipment that drives cutting-edge research. Beyond following protocols, you’ll interpret data, ask hard questions, and get a feel for how spectroscopic insight translates into real answers in catalysis and material science.

These sessions are designed for active participation: small groups, guided by experienced instructors, using the latest instrumentation on the LCS VISIO platform. By the end of the week you’ll not only understand the fundamentals of vibrational spectroscopy—but you’ll have applied them in a meaningful way.
